"RESUMES VS. JOB APPLICATIONS"

A resume is a self-marketing tool but an application is a legal document. What are the differences and what do they mean to a job seeker trying to write a resume? On a resume, you do not need to list your full and legal name. Simply use the name that you go by on a daily basis. "Ben Phishman" would suffice as opposed to "Benjamin Hank Jonathon Phishman III".

A resume does NOT need to include exact dates of employment. Years are fine as in "1998 to 2004". Adding months and numerals only disrupts the flow of the resume and does nothing to further enhance your marketability. Do not list how much money you were earning or the reasons for leaving each job on a resume. This can be disclosed in a job interview or on an application IF asked. Never provide this information unless it is specifically requested. (Continue this article...)
